January News from Il Palazzone

Felice Anno Nuovo! Salutations, Friends, and Happy New Year! Welcome to the new quarterly newsletter!

2022 is one for the books and what a year it has been! Our first full year as owners was packed with plans, ideas and a very steep learning curve!  While we are really excited to get the ball rolling on 2023, a quick look back is always fun.

Harvest was a wild card this year, with the unusually dry and hot early summer giving everyone a few headaches before normalizing in August. We are really happy with the quality and quantity of the yield and are already looking forward to a good vintage release - in 5 years!

For those of you who are already Club100 members, you know the Olive Oil harvest, while small, resulted in some spectacular oil!

We may still have a few bottles left for those of you who missed the November release. The olio nuovo is always special, with extra-active polyphenol and organoleptics for amazing antioxidant properties.  It’s also a real treat to eat!

After the full-court press of harvest, followed by getting the vineyards ready for winter slumber, we have all been enjoying a hard-earned holiday break. Everyone was able to take time to enjoy friends, families and loved ones and to celebrate the joys of the season for which we are so grateful. We hope you all got a chance to do the same!

With the new year comes the commercial release of the 2018. We’ve been busy sharing samples with journalists and experts are a pleased to share a few reviews on our website.

And now the work of 2023 and preparing the estate for the next season begins in earnest. In January and February we will prune the vines, giving them the best outlook for spring. Most exciting, though, is that we will begin building out the new, upper vineyard in January as well! If all goes as planned, we will have the new vines in the ground this year.  Baby vines take a lot of care and nurturing to get to grapes - we would expect to see our first grapes in about 4 years and our first wine from these vines in 5 or 6 years. We’ll keep you updated as the work progresses…

As always, thanks very much for subscribing to the newsletter and sharing our journey!  We currently plan for a quarterly mailing with a few short updates as they occur, especially in the new vineyard.  Let us know what you think!

Alla prossima,

Kirsten
