Our baby Brunello in the US for the first time. Rosso del Palazzone NV 01/10 is in New York!

Rosso del Palazzone

Our third bottling of the Rosso del Palazzone will be available in the US from today. This is the first time that we have sent this wine to America.

Rosso del Palazzone is made from a blend of different vintages. This means that it cannot show the vintage on the label and comes into the VDT – Vino da Tavola category. However it is always made from 100% Sangiovese from grapes grown on the property and is either declassed Brunello or Rosso di Montalcino. The component wines spend between a year and three years in wood. Anyone who loves Sangiovese and Montalcino will have worked out that this means that the wine is practically a Brunello… at a very convenient price.

The 01/09 bottling received a bronze medal in the Decanter World Wines Award and was picked by Jancis Robinson as Wine of the Week.

“.. pure Sangiovese with a hint of the warmth of this corner of south-eastern Tuscany – much lusher than the average Chianti – but without any excesses of oak or alcohol. I would happily drink this any time over the next two years and would pat myself on the back for having found such an honest, pleasurable message in a bottle from Tuscany”

01/10 is made from a blend of 2008 Rosso di Montalcino DOC and 2005 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, two great vintages, five and four star vintages respectively. Our winemaker, Paolo Vagaggini, describes it as “troppo buono” - too good. The Rosso del Palazzone has all the rich and complex flavours of a Brunello with an great cellar aging capacity. It is deep ruby red with a rich fruit and spice driven nose. In the mouth it is very intense with concentrated ripe fruit and hints of spice and tobacco. The flavours linger in a very long finish.

Tribeca Wine Merchants in New York have the US exclusive for this wine. If you are interested, get in touch with Doug Fauth via info@tribecawine.com or telephone 212 393 1400.
