Face to face with a wild boar

Like many producers here in Montalcino we have had to fence off the property at great expense and causing an inevitable uglification of the Tuscan landscape. The boar and deer populations are out of control and we have to protect our grapes and vineyards. In Tuscany the wild boar population is forty times the national average, concentrated principally in the province of Siena. There are thought to be 500.000 boar in Tuscany, an estimated 20 per hecature. You can now stipulate a special "ungulates" policy for car insurance but the only way to proect the vines is fencing and constant vigilance. And keep eating those pappardelle al cinghiale!
