Tips for Decoding QR Codes

See this content in the original post

Have you checked out our new mobile website yet? While the content is the same as if you accessed the page from your computer, the new design is geared especially towards when you browse the page on your phone, making it even easier to stay connected with the vineyard when you are out in a wine store or enjoying a bottle with friends. What’s even easier is accessing the website through our new QR codes, appearing on the back labels of the 2006 Brunello and the Rosso del Palazzone and in this post.  Instead of having to type out the website address on a keyboard with tiny buttons, you can now just hold your phone to the barcode and let it do the work. The first step to using the QR codes is downloading a QR code reader onto your mobile device.

  • For iPhones, iPod Touches, or iPads, you could try TopFloor Studio’s ConnectMe QR, which is a free download from the App Store and will pop up if you search “ConnectMe QR”.

  • If you have a Droid, try QR Droid from the Android Market.

  • For Blackberry users, you can download the QR Code Scanner Pro from the Blackberry App World

  • Any QR code reader should work, so if there is one better suited to your model phone than the above suggestions, feel free to download one of those.

The next step is to open the program that you downloaded (you will need to open the program everytime you wish to scan a code), select the Camera or New Scan option if required (some readers go directly to the camera), and aim the camera on your phone at the QR code reader, making sure that all parts of the QR code are within the frame.  The QR code reader will focus on the image, take a picture of it and decode it into a website.  Depending on the reader you have downloaded, you will have several options of what to do next, including opening the link, emailing yourself the link and sharing the link with friends.
