QR codes for our Brunello 2006

While our wine has remained traditional in every way, Il Palazzone is a pioneer in embracing technology that allows us to connect more directly with those who enjoy our wines and olive oil. We were the first estate in Italy to feature a Twitter id on our front label, have a rapidly growing number of Facebook fans and frequently update the blog on our website to convey information about everything from news about our vineyard to happenings in Montalcino.

We are now very excited about the next step.

Starting in mid-summer, with the release of our 2006 Brunello and our Rosso del Palazzone in the US market, our back label will be home to a QR code. Unlike traditional bar codes, QR codes (short for Quick Response) are square shaped boxes with pixels instead of lines. These two dimensional bar codes allow a lot more information to be processed and stored within the code.

Now, when you pick up a bottle of the 2006 Brunello or the Rosso del Palazzone and scan the back with your smartphone or iPod Touch, you will be linked directly to a website specific to the bottle in your hands. Have you ever ordered wine in a restaurant, had it arrive and want to know more about it and the vineyard? Or been in a wine store and wondered about the vintage reports or whether it would go well with the dinner that you are preparing? Now, on your phone, you’ll be able to scan the code and instantly be connected to information about the tasting notes, growing season, up to the minute reviews, food pairings and suggested recipes for the specific wine that you have in front of you.

In addition to the sites that will link directly from the QR codes to the website, www.ilpalazzone.mikelee.nyc is getting a Mobile Makeover! Whenever you access the website from your smartphone or iPod Touch, there will now be a new format that makes it easier to view all the pages on your mobile device, from the estate’s philosophy to vintages and reviews and even our most recent blog posts. Go ahead, grab your phone and give it a try. Don’t forget to let us know what you think here, Facebook or Twitter!
