Green light for 2004 Brunello!

Our 2004 Brunello was blind-tasted by Monty Waldin in Montalcino on 28 October 2020 as part of a large retrospective tasting of that vintage for Decanter. It received 92 points and was featured as one of the top 40 of the tasting (full article for Decanter subscribers here). Monty wrote on Instagram that it was the best Brunello tasting of his life so far.

It is wonderful - and relatively rare - to see reviews of Brunello’s as they approach their ideal drinking window. The 2004 vintage was the first five star year since 1997 (the so-called vintage of the century) and was greeted with much excitement on release. We bottled 8.633 0,75 liter bottles on July 31st 2008. It spent 40 months aging in Slavonian oak and was released in January 2009.

Il Palazzone's US owner Richard Parsons took over here in 2000... He was in his stride by 2004, as this mouth-watering, medium-weight, clear-fruited Brunello with both classic and contemporary overtones shows. Drinking window: 2021 - 2035
