Benvenuto Brunello 2021

Normally February would be all about gearing up to the Benvenuto Brunello weekend, the official launch of the two new vintages, 2016 and 2015 Riserva. It is rare for two consecutive vintages to be this good. We are waiting anxiously for the pronouncement regarding the star rating of 2020 and for the tile commemorating the vintage to be unveiled and cemented into place on the town hall walls.

The town should be pullulating with visitors and it ought to be impossible to book a hair appointment since all the salons are full of outdoor people transforming themselves for the Gala dinner.

Not this year.

Instead Benvenuto Brunello is OFF and has been re-scheduled in a Covid-friendly format on multiple weekends in March. Wines from 140 producers will be poured but the producers themselves are absent. The sessions are for 25 people at a time and are open to both winelovers and trade operators. Wines are served by sommelier and booking is required.
